I would like to share with you some simple tricks to get boiled eggs with smooth surfaces and soft yolk at the right point. They also save you time and expenses on your bills (water/gas/electricity).
All you need is a saucepan with a lid and a steamer basket.
Don't have a basket? No problem. You can replace it with a deep plate and a piece of paper towels.

6 Eggs (at refrigerator temperature)
Method
1. Pour about 2cm of water into the pot
2. Place the basket, put the lid on, turn on the heat and bring the water to boil
3. When the water comes to boil, take the eggs out of the fridge and lightly beat the eggs on the table to make cracks in the roundest part of the shell.
4. Place the eggs in the basket and close the lid
5. Cook for 10 minutes on medium-low heat (just to maintain the amount of steam)
6. After 10 minutes, drain the eggs and cool them with cold water then leave them in the water for 10 minutes
